Under national guidelines, only individuals over the age of 18 can attend this training. Just as CPR helps you assist an individual having a heart attack-even if you have no clinical training-Youth Mental Health First Aid allows you to assist someone experiencing a mental health-related crisis. In the course, you learn risk factors and warning signs for mental health and addiction concerns, strategies for how to help someone in both crisis and non-crisis situations, and where to turn for help. After attending all 6 hours, you will be a certified Youth Mental Health First Aider. In reaction to the COVID-19 pandemic, the National Council for Behavioral Health, who oversees Mental Health First Aid programming, put together a virtual Mental Health First Aid class for both the youth and adult models. This class will be taking place on Zoom. Below is a checklist of what is needed to fully participate in the course, please check off to ensure you have all equipment needed:
